December 26th Letter

Hola!!
Yay for SKYPE!!! I love technology!! Thanks so much for getting together and talking with me !! I had a great time getting to see all your beautiful faces!!  I enjoyed hearing how everyone is doing and practicing my Spanish with you. hahah um.. So yeah nothing new to really share cause we talked yesterday!! which was awesome..  Oh i forgot to mention that Chileans love mayonnaise the put it on everything and I'm turning Chilean cause i put it on my rice and salad just like them. its pretty funny. there mayo has a different flavor though its not normal.. um oh and we visit this one less active grandma Briecida and my comp has bad  allergies right now and the old lady said i have an answer. she went and grabbed rubbing alcohol and then splashed it on her face.. it was so funny... then my comp did it and said l oh ah it burns!!! haha I was laughing sooooo hard..  sorry this is random!!!
Were visiting a few of investigators tonight with our DL so we get them committed to baptisms!!!  I want you all to make the new years goal with me of completing the Book of Mormon !! read it (Roland) not just listen and I know that as we  read a verse or page or a chapter a day the Lord will bless and help us through all our difficulties!! Thank you for your prayers and your support I love you all and cant wait to see your great faces again!!! Hopefully my Spanish will be better and  I{ll be skinner!!
Love you,

December 19th Letter

Hola mama!!!

Ah only SEVEN  more days till I get to see your beautiful faces!! I'm supppppperrr excited..  I will be on the computer here at 8pm.. So 4 pm Utah time..  don't forget!! okay. Its going really slow here in Copayapu. We don´t have any investigators yet but we are visiting tons of less actives. We had a person that we contacted on the street show up for church today named Emilo. This was pretty cool. We taught him a lesson after church with 2 RM and one futuro it was intense.  he seems pretty interested but he doesn't live in our area so we have to give him to the elders. So last week I spoke in church and I'm pretty sure it was horrible cause  i  only had a hour to prepare, anyways i was thinking it will be along time till i speak again right. oh now our awesome first counselor called and asked if we could sing two songs in church a duet. so us being missionaries said yes. We practiced God be with you till we meet^ which pretty good. however the other song silent night in Spanish is super hard!! yeah we could not get it. Luckily our prayers were answered and we only had to sing God be with you till we meet. I'm so thankful cause noche de luz es no bueno.  Um we have a ward party this Friday which will be fun!! and then we are going to be caroling in the´plaza this weekend.  We were able to watch the  Christmas devotional which was pretty. I loved the movie of Christ´s birth.

I'm struggling a lot still to speak Spanish, but I'm learning a lot of patience.
I love you all and hope you have a wonderful Christmas, sorry if my cards are late.. better late then never and its from chile .

December 12th Letter

Hola,

So this week was so so it was long and very hot.. The highlight of this week was our mission president came and we had a Copiapo  conference. So I was able to speak with the Elders that took over Vallenar and they told me my Alex investigator was baptized in Oct. and that he received the Aaronic priesthood and that he  will be going to the temple this month !! how cool!!! and that another invest. of ours is getting baptized this week!! ah I love hearing the fruit of our work being baptized. We had nice talks given about the wise men and it was so great to hear all the faith and hard work that they did to visit Christ. I challenge you all to truly read the 12 verse about them again and pull out all the great details. Pres. Bruce talked about obedience and how this 2012 is going to be amazing in Antofagasta.  We had a small Christmas program with everyone. I gave away syrup and a toy and Elder Koons was so stoked to receive  it. I got Jenga and a neat journal from president. so I'm super excited for that...  we decorated some sugar cookies and I had pizza for the first time here and it was alright.. it really made me miss  the states pizza.. I'm doing alright my Spanish is worse and we have no investigators so this is hard but we have been visiting a lot of great less actives. we just need to get them to attend church. Sorry this week letter is lame and small.

I love you all and can´t wait to see your beautiful faces Christmas day..
next week I´ll have details

Birthday cake with Hna Lindner

Woleska´s baptism 12/3/2011
Hola  Familia,

Mom I got my package and I'm so excited to open it!! I gave it to Hna Low to hide so I couldn't peek inside.
Ah Copyapu has been really hard its been a big adjustment but I have had much patience and trust in the Lord. This Thurs We had a meeting with Elder San Martin who is our  (Zone Leader)  just my comp and I about what our difficulties are.  He asked and I wanted to say everything is difficult right now : my comp, the language, the new area, new ward. But I didn't I shared the area has been hard. He then shared a scripture and gave me hope for overcoming my difficulties which was perfect for me. He then asked my comp for her´s which has been confidence in Spanish and as he was directing her difficulty I was learned something too. I learned a lot about how to become more humble and to be more outward focus.  It was a perfect meeting all my difficulties were truly answered and it was because the Lord was waiting for this moment and to see if I would trust him  . I am so grateful I did or I would have made my companionship harder then it needed to be.
This weekend we were able to baptize Woleska who is a young mother. I had only known her for 2 weeks but hna ViƱa says she has changed a lot  these  last 2 weeks , which I believe its cause she need us two  hermanas. We don't have a lot of investigators right now but have a lot of less actives which has been great. Its amazing how they become in active for years and forget how to pray or who is Joseph Smith.  Seeing all this people fall away has made my testimony of Home and Visiting Teaching more strong. We as members need to do all we can to be involved with everyone in the ward always . We always need to be a friend and praying for those in our ward. As we do this, the less actives will feel Christ love through us and have the desire to return.
Remember the saying from the conference ¨WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER¨¨  We are only has strong as our weakest member. Take a stand today to serve the Lord more, especially with the Christmas right around the corner. Start today to make a difference in someones live, to make someones day.

I love you all and can´t wait to hear from you in 20 days, no worries I'm not counting :)

p.s. Bro Patton became the bishop in ridge
p.s. mom are you forwarding these to Susan  and Brother Patton? if not, will you please

Goodbye party for Elder Brown

Hermanas of the mission

My mamita and papa Mono in Iquqiue and their family

Hna. Irene, Roberto, Yantamti, Analis
Hola Familia y Amigos,

Ah what a wonderful BIRTHDAY SURPRISE to open my email and see all the wonderful birthday wishes!!! Thank you all so much I don't think I have cried so hard before during emails :) Ah this week was really hard for me I had to leave Iquique and I really truly loved it there.. Especially my comp and my Family that served lunch to us everyday. They  became my family here and made my days always better. Anyways I am here in Copiapo, Copayupa  now I arrived here Tuesday at 11 am after a very long hot bus drive... My comp is Hna Vineyard from Ohio, she actually lived in LA area for awhile and went to one of the Northridge dances that I helped with. small world huh!! We live in a 3 bed ,1 bath apartment with two sisters hna Low( from the MTc) and hna Quintantilla from El Salvador. Its fun every once in a while but hard to stay focus.. For thanksgiving I headed to the doctor and got medicine for this dumb head cold cause it wasn't going away. So we took Thursday off to getter better and it worked for the most part, isn't sleep amazing. We didn't have to many lessons this week which was weird for me but oh well we did what we could.. The ward here is great  it has a pretty good mixture of different ages. We have one  investigator named Veleska, she preparing to get baptized this week.. This is way exciting cause she needs the gospel in her life.  Um the ward is great and throwing a baby shower for her on Tues .. That's whats so great about this gospel we are so organized and on top of always helping our members and non- members!!! The high light for me this week was this adorable little inactive girl name Thiare. We went to visit her and her brothers but only found her . So we shared a scripture and asked if she would come to church on Sunday and she said yes. As we leaving the house I had her on my mind the whole time, we went and got Veleska and then head to church and as I was greeting people I kept feeling I needed to run to her house and get her, but of course its not that easy as a missionary with investigators. After sacrament was passed , my comp get up and leaves. I'm a little confused but stay seated cause I can see her. I then watch her bring in Thiare. Ah I was so happy. During RS one of our counselors shared¨I saw this girl in the foyer and asked her if she wanted to come in¨she said¨yes and no¨he asked why ¨she said ¨i´m a little sick, but i  promised the hermanas I would come¨I don't know where they are though¨he asked what hermanas?¨¨ she said the misioneras¨¨ .. That's when he grabbed my comp.
Ah how amazing is the young daughter of God to be a little sick and only 11 years old to come to church all alone because she made a promise and wasn't going to break it.!!
This girl is my hero!! I challenge you all to start making and keeping the promises you have made to The Lord and to yourself. Attend church, read your scriptures, pray daily twice or more, attend activities. And I can promise the Lord will bless you all even more then he is right now..!!

Antofagasta Chile Mission- funny pose

Antofagasta Chile Mission
Happy Thanksgiving Familia y Amigos!!

Wow this week was great!! I had my first baptism Hna. Melania!! She is so great and I am so happy  that she has made this decision, I knew from the first time we visit that she was special and ready for this gospel at the very beginning. At her baptism we had a less active that hasn't come to church for a long time so it was great to see him. And we had an investigator!! The baptismal was beautiful we had the Hermanas from Bilbao sings a special number with us.!! Entonces....This week was a little hard a time with this dumb cold but I persevered with the Lords help. We found some new investigators that live in the Las Tomas which is the really poor however the people here are the most humble and appreciative ever!! I had the gift of the Spirit so strong during the lesson. I can´t even really recall what I taught because it was the home had the spirit so strong. This was Thursday, so we head to her home on Sunday and her cute cousin yells ¨Tia can I come to church too¨ ah how adorable!!! So yeah we took her and her cousin who are 10 and 11 to church. It was the primary program which they loved and then during primary class they had a little party to celebrate . The loved every moment!! Later that night we taught a lesson and after the mom told us she wants them all to go. and that she going to try to switch her work schedule to get them all there..
So after three great lessons yesterday that night was transfer!!! so we invited the Bilbao hermanas(menghini and  mapa) slumber party. yeah the assistance didn't call till midnight!! ah it was the longest wait ever!! so Bilbao is staying and I´m totally thinking my comp is leaving and I'm going to run Playa Brava and celebrate my birthday here .NOPE.. Hna Burnett you are being transferred to COPIAPO!!! YEP AGAIN ! To the south a 12 hour bus ride!!! And your comp is another GRINGA!! ah.. How am I ever going to learn Spanish!! Ah anyways I will go were the Lord wants me to go.. So yeah no more beautiful beach or a my three Hermanas....

Love you all keep reading the scriptures and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!! Eat double for me!!
p.s. parents you are both fired for not writing during thanksgiving week!! p.s.s. sorry if this is unreadable- I lost track of time and reading the emails.

November 14th Letter

HOLA FAMILIA!!
Can I just started off with saying I had TWO AMAZING DAYS this week!! The Lord is truly blessing us each day! First thing thanks for the leggings and earrings and PEANUT BUTTER!! They were all what I really needed!! Thanks tons mom .
So  this week we had 9 lessons with some really great less actives that just  need love from the members of the ward. We then had to work in three-somes again on Thursday and this was really hard cause our teaching flow gets stuck. However it was good . We then headed to a church downtown at 11 pm to wait for our bus with all the other elders from Iquique and Alto Hispico so I was able to meet new elders. At 3:·30 am we headed to the Tur bus to head to Antofagasta . We had a Mission Conference with all 153 missionaries because Elder Quentin Cook was coming to speak to us on Saturday morning with Elder Steven E. Snow from the Seventy, Bishop Keith McMullin, and Pres. Jorge Zeballos. It was AMAZING!! Friday night we got together and Pres Bruce talked with about the importance of Obedience which I believe to be very important and know that when my comp and I our obedient the Lord blesses us.
So Saturday comes and wow it was great..  We got to go and shake all of these great men´s hand and their cute wives.. We then had 10 missionaries sings ¨How great thou Art¨in Spanish and then the Talks began. The first two where in Spanish and was a little  hard for me to understand and the The McMullin couple spoke and their talks were okay but then Sister Snow spoke and it was beautiful... She talked about all the great divine people we are and how blessed our families and future spouse and families will be because of the work we are doing. Ah she had me in tears. Then Elder Snow spoke about how great missionary work is and shared D&C 11. Then Sister Cook had as stand and sing and praised for serving. Then Elder Quentin Cook spoke how ¨Real growth in Chile is happening now¨¨ He shared how important this work is, and how we need not only to baptized but to fully convert these investigators and their whole family. We need them to become strong faithful members. That we need to help those Less Actives to find their needs and share the gospel again with them and reassure them of how great this gospel is  Elder Cook told us not to worry about our pass. Let go of all the things that we have done and move forward in this life. That no matter what is going on at home or with our families that us missionaries need to stay focused and work even harder. That this mission is the BEST place for us to be and that the Lord is here to help us each day.  (He said more great things but I left my notebook at home sorry.)
Ah it was a great day , We took a whole mission picture and zone pictures and one with Old Vallenar. Oh and the elders that took our Torreblanca area baptized our red , hot , fire ,gold Alex!! They showed me a pictured and I bawled!! They baptized him the week after we left there so  I am counting him as my first baptism!!!
Speaking of baptism, Sunday comes and I feel like poo I think one of the 100 elders hand I shook gave me the sniffles aka head cold. So we go to church with 2 great investigators and I am sleeping through most of church cause I feel like crud. Then we take a cute YW girl with us and teach a lesson and I am following asleep during the lesson. We then go to the next lesson and I am determined to be alert , which I am and we put a baptism date for the 26 of this month.!!! We then head to Melenia a cute recent convert´s mother who I gave the awesome first lesson too where the Holy Ghost just feed me all the words. We had to stop teaching her cause she was living with here Boyfriend. And the first thing she tells us last night is ¨I didn't smoke at all last week and  I just threw my boyfriend out this afternoon, oh and I decided I would REALLY LIKE TO BE BAPTIZED THIS SATURDAY!!!!! Yep!! how amazing we go to check up on her and she like I'm great and oh I want you to baptize me this Saturday!! ah we were so trying not to jump out of our chairs and just scream!!! So I have a baptism this week!!! ah I am so excited! She is such a great lady and so ready to live this gospel!!! Ah the Lord has been truly blessing us here in Playa Brava and I am so grateful to be  here serving and watching these great miracles.

I know with out a doubt this gospel is truly and when we do our parts at worthy Latter Day Saints the Lord will bless us every day !!
Thanks for the updates mom and the great pictures I love the hat!! you rock it the best.. You don´t  need to send a hoodie Its turning summer here. Can you just send some black dress shoe sock from target  and small yummy state treats and  an a picture of you so I can hang up a recent one!! oh tell Cory and Bryon to make a laminate a picture of their baptism and a family photo cause everyone always wants to see the family and know about our baptism experience.

Love you all and wish you ah happy week!!

November 7th Letter

Hola Familia!!

I am so glad to hear that you all had a great Halloween ! I loved all the pictures thanks for sending them. I had a great Noch de Hogar with our mamita and papmono and there sister who isn't a member . It was great we talked about our talents we all have and how we need to share with others. We then made Carmel apples !! They were so yummy!! This week was awesome, The Lord blessed  us with many small miracles. We tried visiting this  hermano from the list and when we stopped by they told us he had passed away 3 months ago. We were in shock to hear this because nobody told us anything about this hermano who was only 30 years old. the gentlemen told us we could pass again to visit the mom though. So  we went back and the husband answered and said ¨my wife would loved to hear this she needs something to relief her pain, she visits the cemetery every day¨ ¨please pass by tomorrow¨. We where is shock and so excited, So we bought her some flowers and were planning to visit Tuesday  after district meeting, however this district meeting was different we went to the cemetery cause it was memorial day here. We went and did a lot of contacts about the plan of salvation. We were praying so hard that we would run into this lady that we have been looking for hermana Angela. After two hours when exchanging all of our referrals one elder told us he found her!!! how awesome. so we go Wednesday with the flower and she isn't there , however her daughter comes so we are able to leave the flowers with her. We finally get a hold of her and she is really opens, tells us that her kids are all sad and they need something to make them feel better. she told us her children are catholic and so is she but maybe its time for a change of heart.
We were walking to pick her u from church when she told us she cant come cause her husband was sick. But no worries we will meet with her again. We got Carlito to attend church with us finally!! wohoo!!
Yesterday I felt like we really needed to walk up to Las Tomas which is the poorest area the houses are made of random pieces, they are shacks . Its so sad. We walked up there trenching in sand and was able to find a less active family and they opened their home to us and can´t wait for us to return. the people in this area are so humble cause they have very little. Its amazing how wide of an economic spectrum we have in this sector. Its been great here in a Iquique I have finally learned to love the people here the same as my Vallenar.
These last couple of weeks I have been teaching a certain lesson about Goals and desires to the less actives. We have them write on a sticky note all there goals for the future. We then have them share one , and I tell them that I like their goals and think they are great. I then take their papers from them and put them in my bag where i have other blank sticky notes. I take out one blank note at a time and say however the world disagrees , having a family isn't important and i then throw the blank note mimicking theirs on the floor. I do this for them each. I then stop and say however your goals are important right. they are your goals and God and  Christ think they are important. I share mark 11:22-24 and then 10:27. And then give back the original paper and tell them that with faith and action their dreams can come true cause with God all is possible.  Everyone loves this lesson and I know its because we are giving them a visual. We have learned over time that activity and visuals make a differences.

So I challenge you all to write out your goals and your desires for the future and place them somewhere so you can read them daily. You are all children of God, so you deserve the best , so set HIGH GOALS and DREAMS and with God you will be able to accomplish ANYTHING!!
I  LOVE YOU ALL and wish you a very HAPPY WEEK!!!
Keep reading, praying and serving the Lord in every way possible :)

p.s. Mom and Hayden feel better,so sorry your sick again! Mom I got the package but cant open it tell tomorrow so I'm super excited!! thanks . Dad what colored did you paint the room? Roland you start school again?

MacIver and me on Vallenar bridge

Hola  Familia

Ah so  sorry for having a bad attitude last week shame on me. The Lord gave me so many little blessings and I totally looked over them. Anyways Hermana Burnett is  back and is finally in Love with Playa Brava.  This week was great we found many new less actives to visit. One is the Castillo familia  with two young girls that we visit Saturday night and told them how many blessings are waiting for them to attend church. And yesterday they walked in during  open hymn it was awesome!! ah one visit to them and here they all were!! There were so many people at church today  because we had another baby blessing  so I was searching to see if our less actives came or investigators and I spotted  Javeria!! yeah and another familiy wahoo that's three and with the Castillo that's 6. And then Hna. MacIver saw this one Hermano that we visit  the first week here and he finally came!! that makes SEVEN LESS ACTIVES!!! yeah ! It was so awesome. I love Hna. Gallaghers letters she is so amazing and is so right about every little thing.
Sunday for us missionaries is truly the Judgement day to see if our lessons have the spirit and if we are teaching to our people´s needs and not just lessons. And this week showed. Our investigators we have are kinda iffy about things two are young and need permission and the parents don´t like us so that hard. However the Lord answers our prayer and gave us a great barrio that constantly has referrals. And one of the referrals we have been trying to contact for the whole week showed up to church!! So now he knows us and is ready for us to visit him this week. Another is a members husband, he is reading the El Libro de Mormon and showed up to church today for all three hours. She had teary eyes all day cause she was so happy.
The Barrio is starting to open up more to us and actually giving us sincere hugs and references. We finally have a Obispo this Barrio hasn´t had one since Julio crazy huh. So this is going to help. Our Lider Misional is awesome and willing to drive our investigators to anywhere we need.
I had my first  companion exchange this week with Hna Menghini de Argentina, it was so different but good I learned a another way to teach and how to speak Spanish all day literally. haha
We found new investigator a sister of one of our youth and this girl actually seems interested and me and my comp our great with YW so she is our focus this month.
I love this gospel so much and learn something new everyday. We didnt´have any baptisms here in Playa Brava which is hard but we were told that our Alex ( our fire, hot, gold) from Vallenar was baptized last week!! how awesome!! so I am counting him as our baptism this month,
I love you all and hope that everything is going good. Keep praying, reading and especially attend church! There are so many great and grand blessings that come from attending church that you can´t get anywhere else. Keep working hard in school brothers!! Keep loving work mom, dad and Roland!! Feel better mom and Hayden sorry you're sick.
Love you each and wish you a very HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!  Take tons of pictures and send them!! Mom ask Roland I left the charger there with you.

p.s. Can you send me the ward family address please, oh and  can you add sterling silver studs for me birthday and a light cardigan. This is all I want for Christmas and my birthday you can combine the two.
I think about you all and  pray for you all everyday!!

Me moving our fridge back into the kitchen cause we had no electricity for a week  in all our rooms except one our study room

Me cleaning the baƱo with Hna Mapa cause the Elders before us didn´t clean anything!!

Our zone at lunch

Hna MacIver and me at the beach finally
Hola familia,

Ah so playa brava is a lot different then Torreblanca and these past two weeks have been super hard for me. I have no exact reason why but just a whole bunch of small things have been adding up. The positive of our mission is our mamita and papita this family Araya is seriously like our family . They makes us laugh everyday and they love English so they are always asking us phrases or words. We have had some good lessons and have had people open up to us but no one is really wanting to progress. We have had many  YW walk right up to us to at church and ask when can they work with us!! This is so awesome and every missionary´s dream however no one wants to meet with us . I got to work in my first three companionship with Hna Meghini from Argentina. It was alright one day but super hard the next. She teaches so differently and didn't really have love for her investigator, it was sad to watch. I don't really no what to say-  this week has been HARD and its not even the Spanish is something else. Sorry this letter is lame . No worries I have a great comp and Hna Mapa to make me smile. And best of all I have the Lord to help me which he is cause I am blessed with so many great people around me. I am enduring to the end no worries. I love you all and am so happy to hear you all went to lagoon and went on rides except Hayden!! porque? You are the craziest of us all!!  hope you all have a great HALLOWEEN !! take lots of pictures and send me through email please! I miss all your faces!!  I love Iquique it looks like I am in California!! Ttell everyone hi and don't forward this to anyone cause its not a happy letter..

Love you all  and cant wait to receive your package- no worries it will probably be here next week..Can you send  me peanut butter and cake mix and USA treats will be great!! And photos of you all!!!  One of my hoodies please! that's all I can think of . I don't really need any other items ..

October 17th Letter

Pres Albanez family of the branch

Helado every Lunes

Our YW on my last Sunday

My mamita and daughter in Vallenar

My comp Hna. Maciver and me
Hola Familia,

Ah I am here in a new area called  Playa Brava, Iquique and it is so beautiful.  It was so hard to leave Vallenar, we had so many great investigators ready for baptism they just needed one more lesson. And our Young Women were starting to fall into the things of the world again and so we were going to do an activity and now we can´t. It is so hard to be here , both of us that there aren't other sister missionaries taking care of our sheep. However I know that we have to transfer for a reason and that Pres. Bruce did truly receive revelation to send me and my comp to Playa Brava. Our case is very rare for us both to travel to a new place together. When we transfer we leave all this paper work behind so other missionaries know who we were visiting and who was recently baptized this book has everything. So we left a huge detailed letter for the elders taking over .
We are in a sector that had  elders before so there should be a bunch of paperwork of less actives and investigators like what we left, right? No... These elders left nothing.. We have no idea on who they have been teaching or visiting NOTHING. It is as if no one was here. So we are both new trying to find houses and people to visit and make new contacts and it is hard. This is how our whole week was , we got into a few homes and were able to teach  less actives which felt great but couldn´t find investigators of the old elders. Yesterday after lunch we headed to a recent converts in hope to talk with the mom who isn't a member. And she was THERE!! We got to know her a little  better and then begin to teach and the first few words she says after the prayer is "yes I do want to get baptized but after December" And my heart begin to pump . She went on to talk about how she does want to and she likes church. That she has attend few times and is glad her girls got baptized. But she is to busy and wants to feel peace on her baptism day so that is why she is waiting. I could feel the spirit so strong on this point and the wonderful letter that Hna. Gallagher sent hit me strong. I just began testifying really strongly about how she needs to be baptized now. I didn't even think about what I was saying I was just speaking fluently in Spanish and I know its because this hermana need to hear my testimony. She was in tears and after a few minutes said she would get baptized next week if she had work off or the latest Nov. 5.!!  She told  us that many elders have stopped by and said hermana you should get baptized but then wouldn´t testify and just joke around and eat.  After meeting this hermana and her not wanting us to leave cause we made her happy and wanting to know when we could visit her next so she could continue to prepare for the day.  I KNOW NOW without a doubt she is the reason we are here!! Pres. Bruce sent us here to baptize this Hermana and to bring the family together.
After this great lesson we stopped by a  members family to visit his mom who is less active and she told us we are the first to visit her in 8 months of her being in active and she lives with others who aren´t members. And she was in tears and so happy that we came and can´t wait for us to return. I have no idea what these elders where doing before but they were missing out on some wonderful hermanas who need to hear the gospel. It´s alright though we found them and are going to baptize one and bring the other back to church and baptize her family. I LOVE THIS WORK !! This week was hard cleaning up the mess of the elders physically and emotionally but we are here for a reason. The Lord helps me everyday with my Spanish people are so surprised when I say only 7 weeks in the field.
This area has a ward and everyone here wants to help us even the youth!! And everyone says anytime is good to set up an appointment for FHE. This is so different from Vallenar . I feel as if I´m in the states again, I love how everyone is willing to help.

Everyone keep reading and praying everyday I know that The Lord answers are prayers daily. Thanks for all your prayers and support.

Mom i love you, my address will be the same for the whole mission, so no worries I will receive it. And It takes a little longer for me to receive things just so you know. You picked up the boxes from when I left the MTC right? Good luck with school and if you just do your BS now that's a great start mom!!
Dad I love you and think that you should paint the room a light yellow or tan. How is work?
Roland stop taking the Internet so I can read longer letters :) Love you tons hope you enjoyed my letter
Twins - love you and hope you aren't growing to tall

Take care everyone!! I'm doing great in CHILE!!

October 11th Letter

My zone in Vallenar
HOLA FAMILIA,

So....  this Wed. was the BEST EVER!! We had set 5 apps for this day and we had ALL of them plus one!!! SIX APPOINTMENTS!! wahoo!!! They were all great with our investigators and less actives ! So cool.  And for once the mom feed us scrambled eggs and meat so yummy ! My first scrambled eggs that I have received from someone. Hna Sylvia is less active invited us into her kitchen and showed us how to make lemon pie and apple pie so awesome then she wanted us to eat both of the pies at that moment. she is so cute.  Everyone was feeding us in all our citas I drank so much but was able to hold it all in till we arrived home that night at 10 pm unlike Janae did in her meeting. hahaha  Thurs we went to visit hna Ilda who is our cute abuela here in Chile before we left she gave us each a bag full of snacks! ah she is adorable . We had another great lesson with Louis and she is keeping all her commitments we leave her and is so excited to attend church tomorrow with us all :) Friday we moved  our study room around to prepare for more sisters to come and cleaned everywhere!! I am  so  excited for more sisters to come to our area!! Later that evening we headed to a less actives to help set up a birthday party and then went to Louisa with our Elders and wow they are awesome!! The spirit was so strong I am so grateful for the Priesthood that we have !! We did tons of service Saturday and then a lot of knocking on doors cause our appointments fell through. no fun! however we found so many new less actives. later that night as we were walking home we received a phone call from the assistants ..... They told us we are being transferred to Iquique which is all the way north . a 16 hour bus drive!! and that elders were taking our place here. I felt so sick !! We have amazing invest. so close to baptism and we are now leaving Sunday night at12:00 am. I could not sleep at all I just sat and ate!! I had no idea that this was coming for us both to leave. Ah anyways these things happen for a reason I know that Pres. Bruce needs us in Iquique the positive is there is a beach there, I'm with Hna MacIver still and I get to be in the same zone as Hna MAPA!!
I got motion sickness  the last 6hours which was no fun and then the elders weren´t done cleaning so we couldn't unpack till today and oh my they were not cleaning at all!! the house was not just dirty but DISGUSTING! NO LIE!! I have no idea how they used the shower or fridge or anything in that house. So we spent all morning cleaning everything and we still aren´t finish. ah I will send pic next week I forget my cord. Oh yeah they didn't do their paper work so we have no idea who to teach... crazy elders.. ah!! It nice and big though our room is huge which is BAKAN.. we only have one bathroom and one mirror which is going to be hard we were kind of spoiled in vallenar.. anyways..
Love you all and love your letters.
love you much

Hola Familia!!!

Wow what a great end of an up and down week!!!  Monday night I received a call that I had a new missionary meeting tomorrow in Antofagasta!! Yep that's right Antofagasta which is 11 hours bus drive!! ah crazy. So we headed home after only working a hour on Monday to head to Copaipo which is a Two hour drive. So four of us get in a collectivo(taxi) to head there a 9:00 pm arrive there around 11pm. My comp and I go stay with this one sister till 3 am which is when my bus leaves for Anto. yeah no fun!! Our phone dies which is bad but luckily E. Hewstone has the assistance number we wait there for 3o mins. They come get us and I´m changing clothes cause I feel all gross after being on a bus FOREVER!! When my cute MTC Hermanas walk in and scream and give me hugs!! just what I needed!! Ah it was so great to see them. We had a quick breakfast aka gross ham and cheese sandwiches. Then start the meeting at noon eat again at 1:30 then  play questions and answer time. Then I am off again back on the bus at 6 pm!! ah crazy!! This time I wasn´t stopping anywhere going to straight through. Ah my legs where so cramped and I was dead. I got to see the hand in the sand statue while on the bus, which was cool. We arrive home at 3:30 in the morning and find out later that day at one we had a Zone meeting with Pres Bruce. Talk about crazy. What he shared was so great!! He really emphasized how important we are and just really bold speaker.  He told us "Octubre is going to be HUGE, so don't miss it". Which I know he is right, cause this month we are pushing to baptize Alex and this cute mother and daughter that were suppose to be baptized last month but they disappeared but that's okay cause we found them know and they told the Elders that they are ready for us to baptism them!!! Thursday was great we had back to back wonderful lessons with our investigators and our mamaita who feeds us, she is a less active and today asked if we were going to pray!! BAKAN!!!  I'm so glad Thursday was great cause Friday was bad!! We had 5 appointments set up and they all fell !!! ah so horrible feeling and two of our girls in the YW now have a nose and tongue ring and one was smoking!! ah Friday was so hard I felt so sad to see this girl smoking after how much progress she has been making. It  just shows how strong Satan is and how we really needed to always  be following the commandments and praying daily. It  was a tough week with traveling for two whole days and not being able to work a lot but everything worked out well cause Conferencia General was here!! wahoo!!! It was so awesome I loved everything they shared on Sat. everything they said was so strong and I felt was directed to everything I needed to hear and my investigators. We sadly had none of our invest. but had 6 less actives show up Sunday. It was so great to see 6 of them there and some in which haven't been to church and many months.  I love this mission so much there are definitely time when I felt like dead and like my investigators aren't improving but then I have so many great moments of the Lord helping me in my life and others!!
Thanks so much for the letter dad I loved it and really needed it. I was beginning to worry about you!! I love you dearly dad!!! Tell everyone in Cali hello and I love them too.
Thanks mom for the updates!! tell Bryon congrats!! and to start reading the PMG now!! That is amazing that he is serving were Mike was!! when does he report? I'm glad you all had a great conference party!!

CON AMOR!!!

September 26 Letter

Hey Family,

Como le va? This week was long and a lot of our appointments fell through which stinks but we had some amazing things happen. Our investigator Alex is FIRE,HOT, GOLD. hahah Yeah Elder Edwards from the 5th Ward came up with this one. Alex said he has been praying and has been reading a little and that he will prepare himself for baptism!! He also came to church and loved every moment. During sacrament he was looking up the scripture that the speakers had and marking his BOM up it was  so awesome. He is our focus for this week. We had a great English class yesterday it was small but I think they all enjoyed it. Alex came and his cousin Marcela who is another investgator so that was great. We got to travel to chaƱaral on Friday to get my visa it was fun and so beautiful there besides waking up at 3 in the morning ah!! no fun.  We have been doing a lot of service which is great because I know the Lord blesses us more when we do service through out the week.  I haven´t spoke English all week and I can see The Lord working in my life cause I am starting really understand the investigators more and don´t have the desire to speak English which is awesome. The pictures that I sent last week were of our mujeres jovens( YW) which we teach every week they are so sweet . They are really strong but i think one rebelled this week and got a tongue ring and her parents are fighting all the time. But our other girls are doing great and loving personal progress. Our elders had a baptism this week and we meet the boy´s sister and she is atheist but loves us to death and wants us to teach her but we can´t cause the elders. awkward moment for us we don´t want to take her from the elders but we know she really likes us and we know we could help her. So will see how that works out. Today we headed on a little adventure through this mountain and got to hike up a waterfall literally it was crazy but so worth it. The elders in our zone are all nice and four are from Utah valley which is fun. This week was good and we had a lot of good lessons. The only thing tough this week is Sunday which is sad to say but I just get so lost with so many people speaking Spanish fast and I become overwhelm which I know I should but I do.  But I fight through it and pray for strength which the Lord gives me daily.  This area has so many great members they are all just less active and need friends and visit from the ward which the members don't do. These moments make me really grateful for our wards in the States cause we have home teachers and visiting teachers which the people need here badly.

And can you send me peanut butter please I am craving it but its super expensive ;) not much time for a testimony i´ll  try in another email.

Love you all and thanks for the updates. Good luck with work dad and roland . Nice job with your grades Hayden your a star!! and Dallen keep working hard in school!! You are all awesome and I love  you very much!!!!!

Love Hermana Burnett.

September 18th Letter

Hola Familia y Amigos!!

Ah so this week was very hectic because its Chile´s Independence day the 18th but here they celebrate not only one day the celebrate Friday through Monday so no one has been home or has been very busy. However we have TWO new great investigators named Louisa and Alex. Louisa is older and very receipted towards everything we have shared and kept her promise of reading the pamphlet we left her which was great!!  During our second visit her sister had a friend over that was evangelic and she told us that  ¨she doesn´t like Mormons and doesn't like that we don´t read the bible and says that the book of Mormon is lame and she didn´t like the hymn we sang or how we prayed¨. I didn´t understand any of this so I just sat their smiling and then I noticed my comp started to cry. Louisa finally said¨well I liked that song and I like listening to them¨which  I could only understand a little bit. I then  just turned to Louisa and asked her what part of the pamphlet did she like and why and what part didn't she understand. My comp then was able to talk again which then the other old mean lady decided to leave which was perfect for us. The Lord is amazing how he works he brought the spirit in so strong that the lady felt uncomfortable enough to leave. As we were leaving Louisa told us that she can feel a difference when we visit and she likes us a lot. So I am super excited to meet with her again cause I know she will want to come to church and gain a testimony quickly.  Our other investigator  Alex is a a nephew of a member  who´s 13 but so smart and receptive towards everything we shard. I can´t wait for this holiday celebration to be over its like Christmas here, its super pretty though with the red, white and blue everywhere!!  I'm doing great and loving my branch more everyday, we had a great 18th BBQ on Sat. with tons of games like  tug of war (which we pulled so hard at the end and it broke sending us all to the ground), and jump roped and danced the Chilean coyqui( don´t know how to spell sorry) but it was so pretty .Our young women are awesome and have been going on splits with us which is very helpful so that we can spend time with all those that need it!!  We head to a fair ground the morning it was like a big swap meet I loved it except they have to many State clothing and items, not a lot of authentic things.A man came up to me and asked me what part of Brazil I was from.. I was like um what is he saying.  I love torreblanca so much. The only problem here I am not able to have a conversation by myself yet, which stinks or understand everything they say. However. I am trying super hard to talk back as much as possible with out help. The lord has been helping to understand our investigators and members really well which is an answer to my prayers. And the members say they can understand me which is the best compliment ever!!
a great week and I'm ready for another great week.

con amor todos!! Thanks for all the emails it was the best surprise ever!! I´m sad i missed the state fair, but glad you all  had fun!!  the address on my envelope is the correct one.

thanks and correct any spelling errors before you post it on my blog ;)

Keep up the great diet mom!! Love you all

September 12th Letter

Where we live

Mujeres joven

P-day wearing Elder Hewstone's tag

P-day with our area

P-day by the beach
Hola familia,

Ah I completed my first full week and wow I am exhausted everyday which is good right. I finally had my first warm water shower today and ah I loved it so much. Our gas has been retard and not working so I have been taking 3 pitcher of warm water baths . Anyways two of our investistgators have been flaking about attending church and not being home for our lessons so we had to say good bye to them which is sad. We have a new girl though named Fransica she is the one I gave my first BOM too so its been exciting to watch her understand and be excited about the lessons we have been teaching. I am LOVING the food tons here and actually lost 5 lbs but think I will gain it back because I crave their chocolate and bread all the time. They have this drink here called ecco which is coffee with out the caffine and they give it to us all the time especially at night during their late dinner once and its so gross. Um I have been eating some tomatoes and gaucmole you´d be so proud of me mom. The weather has been so crazy here today was super hot and I was sweating so bad and then two days later I am wearing a scarf, longsleeve, jacket and panties(leggings) hahaha and am still cold!! I feel like I am in Utah with this weather. Its really nice here though I love how big the sky is and how the moon comes out at 5:30 every evening and is so solid. In one of the photos I sent is of my cute yellow casa!! One is of the muerjas joven and another of my zone in huasco which is an hour south by the coast and so lovely!! Another picture I sent is with Hermana Idle who is 90 years old who was born, raised, married, widowed in Torreblanca. She is so cute and sweet and has been the only Hermana to as been the only one that has asked me if I like tomatoes or other foods before cooking which is so cool!! I love our muerjas joven they are so solid in their testimonies and all want to serve a mission and they are only 15 years old how amazing!! They have been helping us so much with our investigators lessons and activities, which is awesome cause all investigators need friends. We had an activities of baking state chocolate chip cookies which they all loved.
We had an ingles class of 15 kids and two were horrible which ruined the class time. I felt so useless cause I couldn't really discipline them which one of them needed badly. On Thurs we walked to the other side of vallenar ( which is a valley ) to help out our elders find less active people that need help so that was fun seeing all the elders and the other side of the valley. we have one investigator right now committed to baptism her name is Anita and she is 9yrs old of a less active. She is way smart and has the cutest personality so I am excited to see here be baptized. Did I tell you that Elder Jordan Edwards from the 5th ward is my District LEader. crazy huh!! So P.G. is being represented in Vallenar Chile!! I am loving the city right now, everyone is super excited for their Independence day which is the 18th of this month so the flag is everywhere . Our street is covered with those little flag banners. I was so tired the other night I passed out as I was writing in my diary, I can´t wait for my body to adjust to how my work days are here. We had four investigators attend church yesterday it was amazing . It is Fransica, her amiga Daniela, her cousin Dafne and Fernada. These three girls call us a Tia(aunt) which is so cute. It caught me off gaurd the first time I thought they where saying Tela or Te and then I noticed it more that it was Tia which is fun to hear besides Hermana all the time. Today for P-day we met with the elders and headed to Huasco where he played ulimate frisbee on a sand court and had a small lunch. MacIver keeps telling me that our elders are the golden elders of the mission and I agree so much. They are always making sure that our house is okay the Chileans mentioned we need bars for our windows cause they were nervous for us. Which we don't cause we are living in a richer area.
Sorry its scattered I just have so many thougths and no time so I hope you can understand!!
I love you all tons

Con Amor

September 5th Letter

Janae and me at the MTC

My District at the MTC

Finally in Chile

With my mission president and his wife

With my first companion and the mission president
ALO FAMILIA,
I am OFFICIALLY a MISSIONARY!! My companion is Hermana MacIver from Arizona she has been out for a year this Thursday. I am so glad I was paired with here because she pushes me to speak Spanish all day but allows me at night to speak English. And she will translate during the lessons when I am lost which is very nice. She very bubbly and has a great personality so we are working well together. So wow what a hard, but amazing first week first off I am in Vallenar the southern part of my mission in this town called Torreblanca. This area is on a hill, yep a HILL I am literally climbing straight up roads to get to members, investigators and less actives homes. It is hard but I know that my classroom in the MTC on the 5th floor has prepared me for these hills. The neighborhood I live in is very nice I have a cute 3bed/2 bath little armarillo casa which only us two live in which is way nice. The area is HUGE!!! And we live on the other side of the town so we are running to lessons and at night to make it home at time. Our closes house is 20 mins and thats walking at a pretty good pace. Its all good though case I love the pan, and chocolate here so I dont feel to guilty if I eat to much. :)
President Bruce has us focusing on in actives so we do a lot of visiting teaching and aren´t tracking on doors which is way different then I thought. I love it though I haven´t had people shut the door on my face or yelled at me . This area has poor and middle class homes, their homes are all really close together and all have fences so we have to yell ALO to get them to come to the door. It really weird that we can´t just open the gate and go knock like we would in the states. There are million dogs everywhere and it sad to see the ones that have a nasty disease or that are really skinny. There is one dog in particular that tries to bite at me through the fence and came so close it scared me bad. One bit MacIver skirt the other day that was no bueno.
We work from 11:30am till 10 pm so we aren´t out in the middle of the day in the sun so that is nice. We have what ever for breakfast lately cereal cause we have no time to buy groceries and then for lunch we go to our mamacita a less actives home for food she feeds us tues-fri and does our laundry which is nice. The food here is pretty American they just give us a ton of food and like to put sunny side eggs on top of the food of mashed potato or pasta it was so funny the first time I was given it but then I thought I like eggs and potatoes so why not together. They drink juice all the time and at lesson have their kids go get us glasses of juice which is nice.
I´m doing good I havent freaked out yet but I know its because my companion is gringa which helps a lot. Im running out of time so sorry. You can still do dearelders.com They take just as long as letters though but are free so thats nice. I hope everyone is doing well !! Can´t wait to hear back from you all. I´m glad Mindy and Netta are still close to you I bet thats been fun :) I´m trying to add pictures so meg add them to my blog. thanks and yes mom you were caught thanks for telling the truth :) I trust you just wanted you to be careful.

Con amor
